Cis preference for gap repair templates

The five major chromosome arms of Drosophila are represented showing sites in which a template for repair of the white gene was tested. For each, double-strand breaks were created at the white gene and repair took place with the indicated template. The horizontal bars represent frequency of successful repair (i.e., conversion). A strong preference for use of templates on the X chromosome is clear! A cis/trans comparison using four of the X sites showed that the effect was due to a true cis preference, as opposed to something special about the X chromosome.
